Formal Education and Credentials

Background

Over his professional career, Michael has acquired an amazing variety and depth of experience and knowledge. He served a full career with the Oregon Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve in flying and non-flying positions and is a published author as well.

As a U.S. military pilot, Michael learned many lessons in excellence, perseverance, patience, and decisiveness. He spent countless hours in solo and group study, "chair flying," and simulator rides in order to excel at the high military standard for fighter pilots. Flying quickly became a part of Mike's identity and forever altered his overall mindset regarding large possibilities. It is not surprising that Mike draws a large number of his teaching stories from this time of flying high performance jet aircraft such as the F-4, F-15, T-37 and T-38.

As Chief Financial Officer, Michael's last several years in the military included much time as an internal coach and consultant working with professional staff inside and outside his office. He conducted this dialogue with a wide number and variety of junior to senior members in the organization. On several occasions, Mike provided clarity and support to people in career transition. He guided individuals through serious personal issues and mentored up-and-coming achievers to attain greater results. In all, Mike helped people reach goals that would have been much more challenging or impossible had he not been involved.

Over time, Michael has honed his ability to speak truthfully yet with compassion. He combines a natural curiosity with strong critical thinking skills to find common sense solutions. Mike is a polished facilitator for team process work as well as a patient educator in smaller groups. In his own words, Mike says he is "drawn to be a catalyst for change." He does not pretend to be a guru but he does have a number of tools to assist in focusing a clear path toward goals.
